So Which One Should You Choose?

  • Corrosion-prone area or moisture sensitivity: Go OEM if the part is in stock. The extra cost is worth the sealing.
  • Show car or insurance restoration: Wait for OEM. You're optimizing for originality, not cost.

And if someone tells you an aftermarket part is 'just as good' without showing you beam-pattern test data, ask more questions. The same way a catalytic converter location question tells me you're checking the work before you start—that's the mindset that prevents expensive corrections.

Five Minutes of Verification Beats Five Days of Correction

The decision isn't always about DEPO vs OEM. It's about checking the right dimensions before you're in a panic. Check the part number. Check the beam pattern spec. Check the lead time. If you're swapping a cat, check the location first—on many Toyota Corollas there are two catalytic converters, and the primary one sits right behind the exhaust manifold.
